Boys Varsity Basketball · RHS Men’s Basketball Has Busy Summer

Sophomore Jaheim Wade secures the tip against Loogootee in the Tri-West Summer Shootout.

Summer break meant more time to work on hoops for the Riverside men’s basketball team.

In addition to working out voluntarily all summer as a group at Thatcher Park, the team participated in two summer shootouts.

The Argonauts made their program-history summer debut at the Tri-West High School Shootout on June 23 and then traveled to Whiteland High School for the Warrior Shootout on June 28.

At Tri-West, the team was clipped by four points in a close loss to Loogootee but closed out the day with a win over Knightstown led by a late flurry to put away a game that they led throughout. Incoming sophomores Armoni Shane and Will Holland III led the way.

Sophomore Armoni Shane knocks down a free throw against the Seymour Owls in the Warrior Summer Shootout.

Fast forward to Seymour, which again saw Shane, Holland III, along with fellow sophomore Jaheim Wade, lead the ‘Nauts to a win over Lewis Cass High School.

The tournament and summer ball ended with a loss to a powerful Seymour team that saw the Argonauts cut a 12-point lead to three in the final four minutes. However, the Owls were able to secure the narrow win by four.

The team continued volunteer workouts at Thatcher through the middle of July and look forward to hitting the hardwood in their new gymnasium at the Armory soon.
