It may have taken a little longer to get the season started than expected, but the Riverside Argonauts got off to another 1-0 start Tuesday evening with a 94-46 win over the MTI School of Knowledge at home.
Senior forward Brandin Johnson recorded the second triple double of his career, with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 steals while fellow senior Will Holland led all scoring with 37 points and had 7 steals, showing his own prowess on both ends of the court. The point total was one off of his career and school record.
The Argonauts, with the school’s first senior class in history, started out slower than expected, leading 16-14 after one quarter. But by halftime, RHS had flexed their veteran muscles to pull away to a 19-point advantage at the break before closing the game with force in the second half.
RHS outscored MTI 53-25 in the third and fourth quarters.
The five senior starters made up 90 of the 94 points, with guard Miziah Grady being the other starter in double figures, finishing with 20 points and 5 rebounds.
It was speeding up the game that made the difference for Riverside against their MTI foes, racing to cause a litany of turnovers leading to fast break points in a 25-8 run that decided the game.
While this is the Argonauts’ second straight season starting off on the right foot, the opener came a week later than expected as their road tilt with Christel House on Nov. 24 was postponed.
The Argonauts will host the Liberty Christian Lions on Nov. 4 to round out their week.
